Should I get a Wedding Planner?

August 16, 2017

I remember when I was a little girl I always dreamt about my wedding day. I know I’m not the only one that walked around with a pillowcase on my head pretending it was a veil. With that said, when I started planning my own wedding I realized that it wasn’t as easy as it was in my head when I was 7 years old. I soon became overwhelmed and realized that the rest of my life wasn’t going to pause while I planned my wedding. Work still went on, other bills still needed to get paid and planning the best day of my life was starting to feel like a nightmare. We get asked all the time by brides: Should I get a Wedding Planner ? To make a long story short, YES, and here is why!

Should I get a Wedding Planner

They can help you sort through contracts…

Wedding Planners deal with contracts all the time. They can help you review contracts and help you make sure that you understand what you are signing. The last thing you want to do is look over a contract and sign without fully understanding it. Planners work with plenty of vendors and can help brides understand what are standard terms and conditions and bring to their attention conditions that maybe are unreasonable.

They can help you find vendors…

Lets be honest, before your wedding you would have never had a reason to look for an officiant, or venues or DJ etc. Wedding planners work with a variety of vendors in the industry. Trust me they have their recommendations for vendors that will help bring your wedding day vision to life, fit your budget, style, vibe  and will give you an experience you will never forget. You can trust that their recommendations are solid and that you will be in great hands.

They fight for your wedding…

Its inevitable that certain things may arise during the planning process. Lets say that the forecast says that there is a chance for rain on your wedding day, its a week before your wedding. A wedding planner would have already thought of this, found a solution, shopped the prices and came to you with a solution vs you spending endless, hours crying and trying to put a last minute backup plan together.

True story: Once we were shooting a wedding where the makeup artist was two hours late. This bride was devastated and good Lord it just broke our hearts as she watched her friends getting dressed and she sat there in her robe crying. Before you say “what about her bridesmaids, why didn’t they help?” Well her bridesmaid had all gotten their makeup professionally done so aside from lipgloss they didn’t have anything to do the brides makeup with.

When I say, that this bride was so lucky to her have her wedding planner from Moments of Fortune Events I am not kidding. Her wedding planner ripped off her own false lashes, pulled out her emergency makeup kit and started beating that face! AND the wedding still started on time! That was the first moment in our wedding photography career where we felt, holy moly having a wedding planner is a must!!!!

They handle communications with your vendors…

As your wedding day approaches you will become very overwhelmed with the amount of emails and questions you’ll receive from your vendors as they prepare for your wedding. Having a wedding planner helps alleviate all of this. They communicate with the team to coordinate, answer, and confirm details of your big day. They create timelines and send them out to the vendors to ensure that everyone is on the same page which helps the day flow so much smoother.

Every vendor can focus on their craft…

Take the true story I mentioned earlier in this blog. Landon and I are by nature fixers so if we had to, we would have ran to the closest store bought some makeup and I would have done the brides makeup  (although I carry an emergency makeup kit now lol, just in case). Yes, its not our job but it is our bride and our priority is her! Although we would have been more than flexible to do that it would have come at a cost because it would have  taken away from her pictures. There is no possible way that I can apply makeup and shoot pictures at the same time.

This is an extreme example but trust me they happen more than our brides would like. Having a wedding planner ensures that there is someone there to make sure that the day runs smoothly, that you are stress free, and  if there is a hiccup they are the experts at finding solutions.

At the very least:  A Day of Planner

At the very least we highly recommend that our couples have a day of wedding planner. Many wedding planners offer this option for brides who want to do the planning but want to hand off the manager hat the day. We recommend you sit down with your fiancee  and consider how much time, budget and how many helpers you have available for big-day preparations. Consider which areas you could do with professional support, and which planning areas you’re less interested in and happy to outsource to someone. We have had the pleasure of working with some one the most amazing wedding planners in the industry and listed them below if you haven’t hired one yet and need help finding one.
